Hey, look...OJ Simpson died...

I lived in Alabama doing landscaping with my uncle the summer of 94. We watched the trial every single day while eating our lunch. It was a good summer.

That whole Bronco chase was a surreal captstone to a weird ass day. Happened the same day as the 1994 World Cup opening ceremony. I was one of the on field “performers” for that—basically they raided local marching bands and cheer teams and the like to volunteer to be part of it in exchange for fun and giveaways that never materialized. So the whole day was this long grueling hurry up and wait bummer where they pulled the rug out from under a bunch of teenagers and just sent us home. So I just wanted to go home and watch some bullshit on teevee and everything was fucking Bronco Chase coverage.

The 1990s were a harsh realm, wack slacks.
This was near the beginning of my department of corrections career. I was running the floor in the dorm and surrounded by 120 men who would rather have me bent over a chair naked and tortured. There were assorted shouts from the tv viewing area expressing (pretty much anything your imagination can come up with will work)they were not happy with how OJ was being treated by the man.

On the other hand, the day he beat the wrap there were mixed comments. From finally, some justice, to, you know that motherfucker did that shit.

On a whim, I rewatched The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! for the first time since the 90s.

Lots of it, umm, hasn’t aged well. Slapstick and toilet humour is boring. But Nielsen was fucking brilliant. It’s a shame that he wasn’t born a generation or two later, because he’d be killing it on an HBO sitcom.

And Simpson was pretty talented and likeable himself, as far as superstar athletes go. Kind of a shame that he want, y’know, an abusive psychopath who saw one too many Friday the 13th movies.

My roommate/friend had an identical white Ford Bronco at the time of the murder.

My other friend had a shutter manufacturing/install business. His next door neighbor had a security guard business. He got the gig of guarding The Juice's house after the murder. I guess they had a ton of lookie-loos and weirdos cruising by.
That same security guard owner was really good friends with guitarist Doug Aldrich. He told my friend Brian he would get us back stage at the Dio/Deep Purple/Scorpions concert at The Greek Theater. Doug was in Dio at the time.
"Hey Reggie, we're here. Can you get us backstage?"
"Uh, sorry bro. Not this time".
Kick ass show. What the hell did I want to go backstage for anyhow? It's not like it was Black Sabbitch.
