Really bad Top 40 music

I like all of those to a greater and lesser extent.

They're zeitgeisty and memorable.

I play Come On Eileen at almost 100% of my gigs and it NEVER fails to ram the floor.

I'm sick of it myself and Dexys are the worst big name band I've ever seen live, full on woeful but pop music serves a purpose and that tune serves its purpose VERY well.

I think every wedding party or formal function with a DJ and dancefloor I've ever attended, the DJ has spun 'Come On Eileen' and it has filled the floor. Guaranteed crowdpleaser.

Plus the lyrics are terrific, in the ballpark of a Van Morrison song.

That Barenaked Ladies is just the fucking worst. Even hearing or reading the band's name makes me low-key annoyed.

In my opinion, 'It's Been A While' is such a great song. I enjoy ' Arms Wide Open' Too , about the birth of his son.

"It's been a while, since I've seen the way, the candles light your face."

I don't care for the Train song. I picture him crying over how great he thinks his song is. That's on me, not Train. They do a fine job however, covering Led Zeppelin 2 in its entirety.

To me it sounds more like a sitcom theme song than a pop song. More of a jingle than a hook.

I'm also biased against white guys in pop most of the time. Because it is usually very unfun and unglam. Especially from the 90s onwards. Lots of yarling and awkward lyrics and cruddy timbres. Like they are doing the absolute bare minimum to get on the charts because nothing else came out that week.

Seriously though, most of these 60's and 70's ones that have been posted are the songs of my childhood and while they may not be great tunes, they bring a nostalgia to me that I enjoy. I remember these were the songs that were on in the car on family road trips.
Brandy, Ebony and Ivory, In the Year 2525, etc.

Side note, my dad has a Zager guitar and it's terrible.

I loved that song from the first time I heard it. Oddly enough I was asked to sing it at a funeral of a friend from the Unitarian/Universalist church a couple of years ago. Even though I had never played it I even knew all the words. From a point of doctrine it isn't sound, but neither am I.
