Achtung! Who else here has a watch fetish?

I’m not a huge watch guy. My buddy has several watches that cost more than most cars, but I don’t have money or inclination for that. This was Dad’s watch. I encouraged Mom to sell it, but she wanted me to have it. The gold is a bit much and certainly not my thing, but I still wear it now and then. Just got it cleaned and a new battery.

oh wow

This is one that he has...lol.

Still working eh? Seikos are like Timexs, they just keep going. I've had a few over the years and retired them because either the finish was wearing off, or they style was dated.

At first glance, I thought that said Fritz.
Seikos have been good to me for decades. I went through three or four different bands on the Mickey, but I finally got tired of feeding it batteries. About ten years ago, I went with this solar model

Just yesterday, I noticed it had shut down completely, neglected for months, all undernourished from languishing on the bathroom counter amongst the brushes, books, and bottles.

Yep, I got a Citizen solar powered watch for my 20 yr anniversary at work. I've had it 5 years now and really like it. I do have to make sure it stays out in the open when I'm not wearing it though to keep a charge. It doesn't take much to keep it going, ambient indoor lighting is enough.

I got mine in '89!

Man a good friend of my dad's, now sadly passed, had this exact watch he wore all the time.

You can get a digital version of it now for smart watches. I'm usually # 130% team school support assistants but the amount of times I had to tell a couple of members of my team to give it a rest with those things because the kids with Autism were infatuated with them to the point they wouldn't listen!

Question(s) for the horologists:

Are there any Swiss movements to avoid?

Swiss movements that are better/more bullet-proof than others?

That's like asking, "Are there any tonewoods I should avoid? Do some tonewoods sound better than others?"

Bought this a few months ago. Not super fancy but I like the look, it feels nice and even as the hot tub dwelling, bougie Churchill perfume wearing dandy as I am these days, I can never see myself wearing a watch that costs more than my first decent car :embarrassed:

Inherited my dad's old Accutron watch, and I've been debating for over a year whether to risk mailing it off to Asia for refurbishment and repair. These old Accutrons are kind of odd ducks, so it's tough to find people who both know how to work on them and actually have the parts available. I was about to ship it out last year when the Post Office went utterly to shit. I'm not big on wearing watches, but it would be nice to have this memento humming again so I could wear it on special occasions. Dad wore this watch constantly back in the 60's and 70's.

I have been standing pat with my watch assortment (not enough to call it a collection) for quite a while now. But suddenly, I'm not feeling my Tag Heuer very much - I think I'm going to flip it and get an Omega Speedmaster Pro, the basic Moonwatch version.

I have a fancy looking Bulova. But I only wear it out to dinner because if I have it on the band bumps against my desk and the rubbing makes my wrist raw.
