Anything Beat The Iphone?

yep.

next iPhone is coming out this October. i can wait.

That is what I am doing. The ATT store guy called me today to let me know I qualified to get an upgrade on my 3g. I told him I would wait. It is slow and a bit glitchy now, at around 4 years old, but I can wait. He said he did not think he would be selling many 4s phones between now and then.

I know it doesnt work exactly like the commercials, but I love the idea. You guys are saying Android will do this as well?

On the droid, I can say "Call Fred Nwanganga" and it dials up my friends number, or "Navigate to Wings Etc, Ireland Road, South Bend Indiana" and the navigation will start giving my verbal directions along with the map. The navigation is the only thing that talks back... If I say "youtube George Lynch" I just get a google results page with videos I can choose from.

Siri basically does the same thing but it reads the results out loud. "Siri, Youtube George Lynch" and it would say back "I have found 15 results" or something like that. It has a handful of other commands like "remind me tomorrow to..." and "call me..." and when it addresses you it will say whatever you told it to do. I've had some friends have it fuck up when they were trying to dial for chinese food and then it said "Okay, from now on I will call you Chinese food."

I do like the Apple screen and the way it plays music.

Nothing beats the iPhone.
It's the most significant technological breakthrough since the wheel.
It's the zenith of human aspiration.

That's why I can't take my eyes of it for more than thirty seconds at a stretch.

Well, read this and think about how much you like android:
http://www.market-ticker.org/akcs-www?post=205952

That being said, as a systems administrator Androids constantly drop off our corporate email system necessitating angry people to be set-up again and again and the iphones don't have these problems. Some of the hardware is better than others but a backdoor root exploit is sloppy security IMO.

Dunno if you actually read that article but this exploit is only on a couple models of ZTE brand phones ....which aren't even sold in the US. This is not some OS wide exploit as implied.

With apple tv in the living room, airport express on the patio, airport express in the den, music library in guitar room (spare bedroom), I can control all entertainment aspects from, my main computer, my iphone or my ipad--including speaker zones--as well as wifi print to shared printer from any computer, iphone or ipad without wires...

People love or hate apple...whatever, but it you buy into their ecosystem, you can do a lot of shit that just 5 years ago used to be upwards of $10k.

My neighbor is a custom home builder (mostly high end stuff). 5 years ago a sonos wireless entertainment system for the house was $10k. With an itunes library and a couple of airport expresses and/or apple tv, you can do the same for a couple hundred bucks.

My response was a reply to this--just forgot to include the quote

With the Logitech Revue Google TV box we have in the front room, I can control my entire entertainment system from my Android powered Galaxy phone...

How do you like them apples?

So I am seriously about to make the jump, looks like I can get a MyTouch for free and unlimited data for $20/month. Just a few last minute questions - the MyTouch runs android and has pretty decent reviews. I can talk to this thing, get real time market data, and perhaps most importantly scan QR codes with it, correct? I mean, Android is android, right? I never had a smartphone and want to make sure.

Thanks peeps.

Android isn't always Android. Huge difference between a 3PO model and an R-series. As far as the phones go, some models are only capable of running certain versions of the OS. You'll have to do a lot of research to find one that is going to fight being obsolete, especially if it's a free model.

It shouldnt be free, Im just going to badger customer loyalty a bit. They've already hinted they'd give it to me but it normally doesnt come free with the contract. That doesnt mean I know a whole lot about it, but it seems to get good reviews, a nice mid-range phone.

Bump.

I've decided against the mytouch. Been educating myself about smartphones since I posted that. Gonna wait 2 or 3 weeks, save a few bones, and pony up for the HTC One S.

I have a Galaxy S 'droid, and my wife has an iPhone 4S. We both like ours, except Siri can't understand her worth a shit, and my 'droid understands me almost perfectly when I speak. I also like how the 'droid syncs with my google account (contacts, calendar, picasa photos, etc.), but I'm confident that the iPhone has apps that do something like that, too.

I have the Galaxy S II and the two phones are actually very similar. You have to do the research and see which one has what you want. Apple has better games and music interfaces, whereas Android supports flashplayer (although flash use is dwindling), which Apple does not. Galaxy has a bigger, tougher screen....maybe Droid does too? Anyone I know who has an iphone pays a lot more than I do for basically the same stuff. For me Android makes more sense, but I dont play games on my phone and I sync with Google.

Had an iPhone 3GS, now got a Samsung Galaxy Note which for me wipes the floor with every iPhone I've seen.

If you are tech savvy get a decent Android phone as it is a far more usable and adaptable device, if you are not, get an iPhone as the iOS architecture/restrictions will stop you doing something stupid.

Also recording and amp simulation etc is far better on iOS than Android due to too much latency on Android at the moment. Checking Amplitube's website recently they are looking at Android development in the near future as Android is supposed to be addressing this.

If you're a MAC/Apple user then it's a no brainer to stay in the family but as a Windows PC user I doubt I would buy an iPhone again as iTunes is a horrible media player/management system and I am glad to be free of it. I would consider tolerating iTunes and buying an iPad however at the right price for the music side of things.

Yeah the games arent an issue for me - no way I could really enjoy a game on a small screen like that. Its mostly the web and gps Im interested in. Perhaps some news shows, etc. I'm not a mac guy, and to be honest after coming back and holding a co-worker's Iphone 4s, I'd take the HTC One S or the Samsung Galaxy II over the Iphone any day as far as feel and display. Both of those phones are much more attractive to me. I think I'll like the flexibility of Android, as well.

I dont like the fact that I cant add memory to the One, but it's still a seriously sweet phone.
