Cue the obligatory annual R&R HOF scorn

Is it okay if I think the Foo Fighters are overrated and kind of bland? I mean, I get that Dave Grohl's a decent guy, and that it's nice that some aspect of Nirvana still perseveres into the 21st Century long after the death of Cobain, but really now.

.

I'm with you. Colour and Shape is a good album but everything else is pedestrian.

I've put their new album on. 2 songs in and totally underwhelmed. I preferred Taylor Swifts last record.

I will say I hadn't listened to the first album in a while - there are some great, and much more raw sounding, tunes on that one.

That institution has been a bad joke for nearly as long as it has been in existence. Nothing to see here - move along please.

Swift’s last two records are great. She writes a much better song than Dave Grohl.

I would be interested to know how much of the songs are her, and how much are her co-writers. Not doubting her writing - when you work regularly with the cream of the crop as far as pop writing/producing for years some of it is bound to rub off on you. But she always works with established elite writers, and part of me wonders how much of her more recent success is due to them and massive marketing rather than Taylor herself.

What is your problem with it?

And what would make it a serious institution?

It is a private institution run for the most part by industry execs and entertainment lawyers. The 'nomination' process excludes musicians and relies on the personal taste of the board and who they feel will financially benefit their little club. There are no rules as to who gets nominated and who gets in and absolutely no transparency to the process at all.

Does it matter? The bottom line is that she & her performance of those songs is the product that the public wants to consume.
