Been looking around for a used Excelsior and I walk into my local GC today and what do I see? A used Fender Excelsior for a buck 99. What is even better is that it is the later release with the beefed up Fender speaker.

I won't get the amp until the end of October because that is when they will release it. I have a cheshire cat grin since I have been looking for one of these babies.

That's a long time to have to wait, but whatever. Congrats!

After doing quite a bit of research before getting mine (original version, and of course, subsequently gone toward something else :rolleyes:) the consensus was that replacing the stock speaker was perhaps the best mod next to the tone switch mod, so they kinda took care of that for you with the newer ones :). Of course, they also added $100 to the price, so for you to get this at basically half price for a relatively new amp is :cool:.

Typical of trade ins at places like GC. The hold is usually a month on anything. They have to report the item to make sure that it isn't stolen property with authorities which us the reason for the wait.
 
Let me know what you think of the upgrade. I played my original next to one t Sam Ash and wasn't sure it was worth the price difference. On the used market, it's probably a different story.

The other day, I was a a GC auditioning cheap guitars, and I grabbed a Squier VM Strat and plugged it into an Ex.

Pure Effin' Heaven :eek: - Those alnico V DDs in the Squier are just vintage clean cheap perfection through this thing.

Guess what my next cheap rig is gonna be? :facepalm:

Brought her home last Wednesday and she sounds really sweet! Would have used her this past weekends gig but that was cancelled. Have a reheasal with the blues band on Thursday, gonna try it out there.

Got some upgrades to do: Rubber Feet, 500K pot tone control, Preamp tube replacement. Might also reconfig the front end inputs as I want to strap to amps together. Have to look at schematic as I want 1M ohm or more for the input impedence - reduces loading. And finally a more involved project down the road is - Tweed it.
