I just shot a test video for my album Kickstarter..please let me know what you think!

I'm assumming its not very exciting from the responses :embarrassed:

I'll do something different tomorrow.

Not bad for a test video....got the point across.

Quite a few um's and ah's though and you didn't focus on the camera at times (looked to the side and stuff). Not sure if it needs to be that long....kids these days have short attention spans.

They tell us to keep our instructional videos to no more that two minutes. I have to write a script and rehearse but that's just me. If I try to wing it I sound like Butthead.

Hope you don't mind the critique.

Love the critique. thats why I shared the video. I might add a little bit of me playing at the beginning too...

Yeah maybe play a snippet from your new album maybe? You could say something like "what you just heard is yadda yadda". I'm sure your Suhr will like to share screen time

I don't really have any full band versions recorded that aren't the iPhone memo mp3's like what I sent you.

Maybe I can do a solo version of one of the songs that I think will work that way. I'll need to mess with it.

Yeah that song I got to hear had some cool licks in it. I'm sure you can pick out something you can demonstrate.

Yeah, definitely add music. If I'm going to donate funds to help produce an album I'd absolutley want to know what kind of music it's going to be.

I'd start out with a big hello and introduce yourself very similar to what you did. When you mention your online lessons and skype lessons, cut to a short 3-4 second clip of a lesson, something with a little talking and a little playing, then when you mention the forums, cut to a screenshot of the forums while you are still talking over it.

Then I'd go into your musical style, or your overall goal and idea for the album. Your inspiration, what you want to accomplish. This is going to get people to relate to your goal, which is going to make them want to help you reach it. If you really have a soft spot in your heart for children from abusive families and someone tells you of their goal to help those specific children in a certain way and why they're doing it, you're going to relate. If they just say they're going to help kids, then you're going to be less emotionally involved.

Then, once you explain your goal, or even as you're explaining it, have your music playing softly in the background, then cut to the music and maybe your logo for a few seconds to let it all sink in while they enjoy the tunes.

2 cents. And in full disclosure, I've never made or directed a film in my life and don't have any idea what I'm talking about.

I like the sound of lots of that though. I think I did this with the idea that most people watching it would already know who I was but I shouldn't think that way I guess.

I think you should add some music, either something you are demoing for this, or something you have done in the past. I want to hear something I am going to give money for.

I agree with the suggestions so far. Definitely add some music. Maybe start with a quick intro then edit in and out of you playing some songs from the new CD with the essential info interspersed between clips. And get something a bit for exciting in the background - probably shoot it in one of the studio rooms you have at Premier.

I was not familiar with kickstarter and was looking for a video from you new album, Kickstarter.

At any rate, I agree with Eloy's suggestions -- more visual examples of what you're trying to accomplish; also with GergS on cutting down the length a little bit. Maybe spice up your background a little bit, although not make it too busy. Maybe shoot it in your practice room instead with some amps and a few guitars behind you. I can't remember from vids how much room you have in your practice area, but you also don't want it to look too cramped so ignore me if it'll look like you're unable to move comfortably in the space.

These are great ideas. I like the idea to add some of your music, even if it's just at ambient level as you're speaking. I'm wondering if filming in your rehearsal space, with the other band members in the background, would look cool... Also, as mentioned, I'd position your body so that you're centered with the camera, directly facing it, and I'd also bring the camera closer in unless there is is something in the background that you'd like to draw attention to.

LOL. Great minds!

oh, get some hot chicks in bikinis dancing behind you. That will drum up the donations.
