I really dislike job interviews....

They are no fun. I had one this morning. At least the 'Tell me about a time....' questions were a bit more minimal. And it is easier to do job interviews when you are currently employed and have to have a job. I never have any idea how I did in the interviews either. No eye contact, no body language to read (it was a phone interview).

I like the company I am working for, but I am having some doubts as to their long term viability as a company. At my age I really want a stable job where there is a reasonable expectation that I can work there until retirement. I do not have that feeling at this company - which is too bad because the people I work with are for the most part fantastic.

When you first start interviewing again it's so much stress...then as you get a few under your belt, it gets easier.

I had a couple recently where I was pretty specific about time, including explicitly stating pacific time zone, and of course the east cost based HR person scheduled everything in eastern time zone anyway. When my calendar notice went off 3 hours earlier than expected, it was a shock to say the least.

Panel interviews are the worst though. There's always that one person on the panel that just tries to trip you up and show off how much they know to their colleagues.

Tell me about a time is such garbage. I've never interviewed like that and never will. I ask questions about the job and its duties. I want to know if they can actually do the job or if they're just blowing smoke.
I hate being interviewed too. Thankfully I haven't had to in over a decade.

If I move forward in the process the panel interview with the IT people is the 3rd interview. I'll find out in a week.

Strange thing is - I applied for this job maybe two months ago and they are just getting back to me now,

Sounds like IT to me!

It amazes me how that happens. When we were planning to move to Massachusetts I flew from Baltimore to Hartford, Connecticut and rented a car to attend a job interview. I thought that it went well and I was told that they would be doing second interviews and I would hear from them. Weeks went by and I didn't hear from them so I arranged an interview at another company while we were visiting in the area. That company hired me a day later. A few weeks later the first company called wanting to schedule a second interview...

I've actually never had a job interview. Where I work now i started when I was 22 and I was just handed the job ( I was friends with his son and his son also worked there) a year and a half ago when the knew owner took over They thought i was the bees knees and I just basically came with the sale of the shop. Before that I worked at the local Airbase on the golf course and I got that because my mom knew the head of civilian hiring. I'm really hoping I can just end my work career here and never have to deal with an interview.
IMHO those questions don't prove shit other than the potential employer is a lazy ass and can't think on his own. You have people who are born salemen and can sell you the Brooklyn bridge but tyhey are shit workers and always looking to beat the system...then you have someone like me who is reliable as fuck and a good worker but can't sell a monkey a banana...i.e some people can make up shit on the spot and others can't...it proves nothing.

Around my place it's not unusual for an open position to be put on hold part way through the candidate interview process....some times they resume a couple months later and sometime they close it. Some positions are tied to project funding and that's always hit or miss.

When I was hired into my current company over four years ago, I think the time from the first interview to the offer being sent was like four months, then close to another month before my start date :eyeroll:.

I hate interviewing.

It IS a lot easier when you already have a job.

My previous job was probably the toughest. Two panel interviews, one with a presentation. That was about 18 years after my last real interview.

My recent move included three separate voice conversations. They were more like a get to know you type thing. I expected the real interviews to start after that. That didn’t happen and here I am in my third month in the role. No silly interview questions. Just conversation about what I know about the industry and how I like to work.

I love this place. Great people on my team and tons of support.

Key to an interview is to keep in mind you are interviewing them as well. Asking good questions as the person getting interviewed is key to keeping it more conversational.

We had a script interview with some "Tell me about a time" questions and what if anything would you do differently now follow ups. We hated it. We wanted questions that were relevant to the job. But we had facilities all over Wisconsin and employed over 6500 people. HR wanted uniformity. What we wanted didn't matter.

Good luck Dave. I have had some employment issues recently and at my age it is definitely not cool. Things worked out in the end but you are smart to be paying attention. Too many times we have our head down and don’t see what is going on around us. You come off as someone that people would want to work with so I’m sure you will be good.

I fecking hate, and I do mean hate in the strongest of terms, interviews. Fortunately, I've done maybe two in the last 35 years. Both were absolute bullshit and went nowhere. Fortunately when my "lifelong" gig ended with our firm's dissolution at the end of 2012, I went straight to work directly for one of our clients, no interview. And when that second gig ended 5 years later (numerous other firm members quit, destroying the economies of scale that had allowed my 2013 hiring) I was able to just say fuck it and decide to be self-employed.

Break a leg Dave.

I got the 'Very strong interview....but no thank you' email. As expected.

But I had a corporate recruiter contact me Monday for a local software company. I had been considering applying for the job, but didn't. I told the guy upfront that I am not sure I have tons of interest in the job, but they want to interview me anyways. I know the guy who just had this job a little bit, and he would have left the system in good shape. But I'm not sure this is what I'm looking for in case of a move. I'm boring and I want a very stable company that there is a reasonable expectation of existing for the next 10 years. Not sure that is the case for a niche software company, as nice as that niche is,

Anyways - my interview is this morning.
