Klon Centaur -

LOL....

I like them as there is a place for them. You just don't have a use for them like I don't have a use for fuzz's.

i don't have much of a use for the fuzzface either. they don't like humbuckers and seem to get lost in the mix. but i don't have a seething hatred of them like i do tubescreamers.

Like I said, it is not your sound bro. Same goes for the world discussing EL84's vs. 6V6's and such.

I've talked with and watched 2 different folks that were using centaurs in a venue conducive to listening and about 5 feet from the club stage...And their tone was fantastic through the klon. It really is great for thickening up lead lines. But there are a lot of pedals that do that. Want a klon on the cheap? Get a bad monkey and don't go above 12 or 1 o'clock on the drive. It's as close as I've head. I'm not kidding.

i've had both El-84s and 6v6s. they're both fine. i don't think it's so much the tube as it is the tone stack.

Tonestack makes a big difference too. As for the tubes: EL84's sound warmer than 6V6's. Also granted to that brand types will have an effect on tone color as well.

Supposedly they're legendary overdrive pedals. I tried one once. Didn't really like it to be honest.
It had almost no range in gain (Like turning a pre-amp knob from 5 to 6), and was a pretty poor clean boost as well.
I have no clue why people get their panties in a bunch over these things.

The Bad Monkey is a kickass pedal. 50 bucks for a really awesome transparent OD? I'll take that deal any day. It is a tone sucker though. Not true bypass.
Though the new Hardwire Tube Overdrive is essentially the same thing, but true bypass and has a vintage/modern switch.
