Sooo.....am I the only one excited about Orion?

I was sooo disappointed I didn't get to see a launch today. Only 40 percent chance tomorrow. But I wasn't around for Apollo and this is absolutely historic to me. Moreso than the launch, I cant wait to see re-entry. Finally, another deep-space, manned capsule. So it's just a test.....but what it means is that we're getting back in the manned mission game beyond LEO...

I am. I turned it on this morning in time to see that it was scrubbed for the day. :(

I kinda lost track of it...I wasn't aware there was a launch scheduled...:(

Test tomorrow or in the very near future. 2 very high orbits, then re-entry. Around 2021, an unmanned loop around the moon. Several years after that, a manned mission. Today's test was to make sure the capsule would survive re-entry from deep space. They're planning for this to be the hardware that gets us to Mars! I cant freaking wait!

Nope, you are not alone. I waited in my front yard with my camera until the scrub. I'm about 3 hours south, bit I can see the rockets launch from my yard. I hope it goes off on Friday.

I love the idea of space flight, but the logical part of my mind tells me manned space missions are a waste of resources that could be spent on robot probes that are cheaper, can do more science, and are better suited for the hazards of space . We are perfectly adapted to live here, and going out to even low earth orbit is dangerous and expensive. We are fragile and need a lot of stuff to live in space. The other part of my mind wants to do the Kessel run in under 3 parsecs and explore the cosmos.

Yep, it made it up. I missed seeing it as there was a cloud in the way of my view.

That was cool. We all remember the old videos of the launch and separation of the Apollo spacecraft. Just watched the Orion version, live, from space, over the Internet, wirelessly, on a laptop, in bed. Technology is amazing

Being at work i only caught glimpses :( But WOW that was cool. Thankfully....we dont have any cars coming in when it should be reentering so I should get to see that.

That was beautiful! This is the first really big rocket launch since the Saturn days. People who witnessed this launch talked about how it just rumbles in your chest. That's what the Saturn rockets did.
I'm excited about our space future. chewie0

Missed the launch. I think I heard it will be in orbit for about 5 hours before coming back down in the Pacific. Start collecting your astronaut autographs now. You may just get the first person to walk on Mars in the next class or the one after!

Very exciting.

The Delta IV-Heavy rocket (center) is the big boy until the SLS series arrives (or the Ares, if it ever happens).
