Working from home...

I can 100% work from home and I'm certain the order will go out any day now.

It's great to have the option but I've always enjoyed the social aspect of going into the office and so rarely do WFH. The next few weeks will certainly be a test of that attitude. And I suspect one of the longest ranging consequences of this will be a major rethink for many organisations (and workers) of the purpose of having an 'office'.

Due to the learning needs of our kids, distance teaching isnt really workable.

Even giving them work home to complete is a non starter for most of them.

Ive been working from home since 1999. I couldn't even imagine commuting to a location unless it was less then 20 minutes away.

Plus - I get my errands running during the week - not the weekend. It's too busy on the weekends.
- I've grown up with my kids. It's awesome and I can't put a price on that. I count my blessing for being involved with them daily for 20+ years. Coaching, volunteering at their schools.
- I get more work done working remote then anytime I go into the office. Im not distracted by water cooler talk and such

Neg - There are no sick/snow days
- Times I'm working at 5:embarrassed:0AM and times I'm working at 11:embarrassed:0PM - office is always here
- Lack of exercise and movement - yea thats on me but the commute to the next room doesn't help much.

About 50% of my job can be done from home.

My daughter, up at MS State, just told me all classes will go online until further notice.

Universities and schools moving to all-online is becoming so universal that I've been getting emails from textbook publishers all morning about how they're moving to open access to their online resources, which is a nice gesture

I stand at a parts counter all day and deal with phone sales and walk-ins...I'm gonna get it eventually...
and if you get it then I get it from the parts drelivery drivers you infect....so thanks in advance !

That right there is the best part. I've been working from home since my kids were in 3rd and 4th grade. They are now in 9th and 10th.

Also, do what I did, get a treadmill for when the weather sucks and if it's nice out, force your self to go out and walk/run.

Lol, my boss just came to me and asked if we could get the new VPN client installed on everyone's computers at corporate HQ *TOMORROW* - formal lab/pilot/deploy process be damned. . Management wants everyone to test over the weekend, and we are looking at having everyone at HQ work from home one day next week as a dry run.

Yeah VPN and 2FA are suddenly very hot topics around here too.

governor dewine (ohio) just put all public, private, charter k-12 schools on "extended spring break" for 3 weeks, starting end of school day monday.

The recovery home was just put on a lot of restrictions. No visitors, we can't take residents out to meetings or have outsiders in to do meetings. All day and weekend passes were cancelled until further notice. Thankfully the men in the house have taken this well, at least as well as could be expected.

I work in a casino.
Can't do that from home.
I get to deal with the public everyday. The poker players are the dirtiest of the bunch, and that room is 20 feet from my pit.

welp....brought my company laptop home to make sure everything connects up and all the programs function. i only got this thing right before xmas, while i was still on my PC. everything seems to connect, so WFH is all set.
there was a little bit of a panic tho, i've had my wifi set up for like 7 years and haven't had to use the log in since then. when the log in prompt popped up asking for the modem admin password....i was like "fuck, i don't remember what that is"......then reason kicked and i remembered that i wrote all those passes down and remembered where i stashed to paper. whew.....
