Working from home...

It worked fine for us today. Almost better than Skype.

Cool. We probably have a lot more traffic on ours, and have had a lot of problems since switching to it a year ago. I wonder if they have had to do some upgrades to their system with the surge in video conferencing.

Order has gone out. Our entire company is WFH including our call centre. Happily we are very advanced on this stuff and even people on the phones can WFH.

We should be able to do that as we have the technology. It just hasn’t been rolled out properly. It pisses me off daily.

For me it is optional at this point. I am in the office today, have approval from my department and project to shift home if needed.

The main thing that would do it for me (aside from getting symptoms or something) would be if the busses stop running. For now they seem determined to maintain service. The good news is, traffic and ridership are light, so my commute is easier than normal.

Well, Skype is now a part of Microsoft, so I'm not surprised that there are better options out there.

One of the companies I have frequent telecons with uses Zoom too. I agree that it works pretty well.

My company is all-in with Microsoft. We use Teams. It's....ummm....quirky...and not in a good way.

With so many people being sent to work from home, I wonder how many businesses will see how well the work gets done, then look at their monthly office space/utility cost and decide to shrink the office and have everyone work from home all the time.

We've been using Teams for a while now. The only issue I have with it is administering it. It's gotten better, but with Office 365, there are some things you have to do in the O365 admin center and some things you have to do in Azure AD. It would be nice if they had just one place for all of the admin tasks.

The idea that 'online learning' is viable for all students of all ages lacks understanding of what teaching involves. I'm likely to post a full bore rant as a new thread soon, but it's clear that people don't understand why it won't work.

And it won't/wouldn't.

For the last decade, I've been shocked that I've had an office. If the federal govt wants to save trillions overnight, that's the way to do it. Of course DC would be crippled, but I may be able to afford to buy there again.

My second grader wouldn't last 10 minutes. No way in hell.
And then it would turn into a screaming match and then even more work wouldn't get done and this is why daddy drinks.

I can’t imagine how much money the government would save if they let people work from home and gave up the office space costs. Or relocate those offices to somewhere where property is cheap.
