And he was so fucking consistent. Even if an album flew under the radar you could always count on a consistently high standard with a few straight-up gems. Hypnotic Eye was a great album.
 
A rough, rough day. He was special. And I am at a loss for words regarding the other news.

I don't know how to say this without sounding corny, but I am glad I can commiserate with you all about this.

And rest in peace, Tom.
 
Everyone even semi-cool will soon be dead, but we're looking at plenty more decades of sharing this reality with Paul Ryan and Kim Kardashian.

Even though I wasn't a huge fan, I have a tremendous amount of respect for what he accomplished. I truly feel numb right now.

I was not much of a Petty fan until about 10 years ago.
I started really listening to his songs and bam. Great songwriter.
I have learned a few tunes,love playing them.
Just damned good tunes.
American Girl and Runnin' Down a Dream are favorites to play.
I have to learn a few more.

I have been listening to Petty for the past month in the car. I Need To Know, Refugee and Even The Losers...my oh my what a great rock songwriter.

Stop Dragging My Heart Around probably gets knocked a bit but it is a piece of art.
 
I grew up in the 80s and 90s so Petty dying is hard to believe. I watched his big videos hundreds of times and I heard them hundreds more on classic rock radio. I’ll never forget great tunes like Free Fallin. This is a terrible loss.
 
I think anyone who has picked up a guitar loves Tom. He is the kid from nowhere USA, who grabbed his guitar and went to take on LA and won. Out of all of the huge icons we have lost in the past few years, this one really has me reeling.
 
Jammin' Me has been on my daily playlist for the past couple of months. It seems like a song of the times, for some reason.
