Speaking of bound teles... Hot or Not?

see why get a black one when you can get a squier cvc? the main advantage to squier is they are US Fender spec-so all parts are easily swapped.

Mostly just cost. I've been poor as hell the past 3 years. The CVC has a rosewood fretboard and I'd want to replace the pickups, so when you factor in the cost of the guitar and all the parts I'd swap out it just wouldn't be worth it. I thought the Xavieres took regular Fender necks.

Hmm, either color looks good to me. As long as you don't mind doing some setup work on it, it may be worth getting. And to answer your question - no I don't think Fender, or Fender speced necks will fit on a Xaviere, without doing some work. The neck pocket might not even be compatible with a Fender spec. neck.

I like the black one better. I fit a Squier neck on an xaviere, so I think the neck pockets are the same, or at least close enough.

I'd be surprised if it didn't fit a fender spec neck heel. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say, current production of bodies considered, 90% of tele/strat bodies produced will fit fender spec heel. Fender spec is the rule, not the exception, and in addition, their bodies alone are sold as fitting fender spec necks.

To answer Howie, cheap guitars are great. Good price, decent fit and finish, not unplayable. However, I consider a cheap guitar to be a...canvas of sorts. It's a great base to add onto. Hardware, wiring, pickups, etc. The neck is always the *base* low point of a cheap guitar. You can tell it's cheap by it's feel, it's looks. So so fretwork, over/under sprayed finish, "unique" headstock. Where as the body is, a body, as you don't really have any input into it, it does it's thing while you do yours, you are doing your thing on the neck. People usually upgrade the neck over the body for a reason. If it feels better, you feel better, you play better, it's a better guitar for that upgrade opposed to upgrading the body. It improves the looks and the functionality.

And let's be honest, we like traditional headstocks. Something tried and true, something we know. Cheaper guitar just have bad headstocks.

Feel free to disagree by all means. This tele is a great base to work with.

I disagree with basically everything you've stated in this post, except your first paragraph. I wouldn't venture to guess what percentage of strat and tele copies have Fender specs.

Exactly. Which is why I buy Squiers and would never be caught dead with something like this:

squier necks are some of the best feeling necks one can buy. 10" radius and medium jumbo frets that are level, and pretty much perfect.

the only knock is they are on the thin side.

i own 6 Squiers (Bullets, Affinitys, Classic Vibe, MIJ). And the necks are generally quite good. or I wouldn't have kept buying them.
BUT the SX Liquid I recently bought from R*ndo Music for $139 has a neck that is better than any of my Squiers (except the MIJ). This neck is extremely well-made and beautifully-finished. Stunning really.

the X has an Alder body whereas the CVC I think is pine. For tone Alder is a better tone wood. I've played and set up an X for a coworker and I liked it a lot. It needs a bleed cap and may need new pickups but that depends on your tone preference but spending $3.00 for a bleed cap will amaze you!

I had a Squier Affinity made in 2002 that needed a lot of fret work. I sold it for a loss and regretted it instantly. Loved the tone so much I bought another in the spring and this one was perfect right form the start! I heard that in 2010 they upped their QC and I have to say I totally agree!!

As far as the neck goes - I sold my ***** SX because of the tone and play of the Squire Affinity. then I bought a MIM Fender and the Squire kills it for tone!! I got under the hood and found the Squire had a bleed cap that made such a difference - that plus the Body has such resonance it's amazing.

If I knew the tone was so much in the bleed cap I wouldn't have sold the SX. I would have spent $3.00 ad added the bleed cap. I loved the look of the Ash SX

if this $3 bleed cap made such a huge improvement in tone, wouldn't most manufacturers include one? Or is this some secret Brewski has discovered?

SX's have killer necks. I have one on my green partsocaster strat. I stupidly sold an SX tele with an absolutely killer neck. Wish I had this one back:
